This forum certainly has the potential to be a useful tool for everyone in the Stem Cell field and is set up to provide unparalleled access to the governing boards of the UKNSCN. Kudos to the organisers for launching it!

To kick things off, why don't we all pop in and introduce ourselves? There are plenty of registered users and lurkers so let's all dive in and get the ball rolling.

My name is Laura, I'm the Bioscience lead for the Science and Innovation office at the British Consulate-General Boston, Massachusetts. I've been learning about the New England area research centers looking working on stem cells and regenerative medicine. My role is to build a dialogue and collaborations between scientists, industry and academics in my local area with individuals with similar interests in the UK.

I'd be happy to share more about the S&I network and to chat about stem cell technologies and advances in the US and the UK. I have a PhD in Virology and have been learning about the nitty-gritty of how hESCs and iPS cells are derived and how they can be differentiated to useful cell types.

I'm also familiar with US stem cell regulatory policy which is changing here shortly and am happy to discuss that as well, the UK is certainly far ahead of the US on policy and regulation and an open dialogue in an international forum such as this is definitely beneficial to the larger stem cell community.

So that's me, please share a little bit about your background and we can see together how the network and the community can advance stem cell science!

(To the mods, feel free to move this thread if you feel I've placed in in the wrong forum. Thanks!)

Hello Laura - thanks for your posting. We're happy to let this remain here for the time being, though it probably fits best in the Expertise Exchange Forum (top one of the three currently in operation).

Hi Laura,

Well I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I'd like to say hello and welcome.

I am sure this forum will take off over time, its a great idea though can see why people might be feeling a bit cautious about chatting because of IP issues; however I feel if we treat the forum as a networking opportunity, then where working relationships can be formed I'm sure private NDA's can be put in place for more formal chats.

Anyway - I'm Nic, my backgound is as an engineer, inventor and entrepreneur I own a small company called Black Carbon and I'm already working in the stem cell arena on some new technology for applying cells. Though I was trained at Cambridge University I'm not an academic, I guess the best way to think of me is someone who can help create tools and equipment for you and help commercialise them.

I know I'm in the wrong forum now but I could'nt see you all alone and like you I'd love to hear what other people do as well Thumbs%20Up

Kind Regards,
Nic
