INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH

The International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) is a young society formed in 2002 to foster the exchange of information on stem cell research. Based in the United States, it is an independent, not-for-profit organisation which has an increasingly global reach through its ambitious and successful annual science meetings.

The UKNSCN has close links with ISSCR and recently worked with the Society to secure the hosting of its 2009 annual science meeting in the UK. However, the initial success of securing the meeting has been overtaken by recent events in which the UK Research Councils withdrew their under-writing funding support following a breakdown in contract negotiations with the ISSCR. The ISSCR's 2009 meeting will not therefore take place in London, though the ISSCR is aiming to keep the 2009 meeting within Europe as it investigates alternative venues. This does not in any way preclude the possibility of ISSCR holding a future annual meeting in the UK. The UKNSCN will use this part of its website to keep the community informed of developments.
