UK National Stem Cell Network Small Awards Scheme 2010/2011

Purpose

The UKNSCN Small Awards Scheme is an informal mechanism designed to provide small amounts of UKNSCN funding for UK-only academics seeking to offset costs in the organisation of national-level meetings and conferences in stem cell science and its translation. This financial support is aimed at bringing together researchers across the scientific disciplines associated with stem cell research.

Eligibility

The following criteria apply to this scheme:

  1. Meetings must be national-level and held within the UK
  2. Only UK academics may apply
  3. Meetings must bring together researchers from more than one discipline associated with stem cell science
  4. Funding may only be used to offset venue costs (including catering) or to cover the travel costs of a relevant invited speaker/speakers from the UK or overseas

Application Process

This is an informal scheme without closing dates, operated on a first-come-first-served basis with an annual ceiling budget of £15k. Prospective applicants should submit a request for funding by e-mail to the UKNSCN’s Executive Director, stating the amount requested, the purpose of the meeting, and how it meets the criteria listed above. The maximum award to any individual applicant in a given financial year will be £1.5k, and can be any amount up to that figure.

Allocation of Funds

Funding decisions are made by the Executive Director in conjunction with two non-conflicted members of the UKNSCN Advisory Committee. Applicants will be notified of funding decisions within 10 working days of receipt by the Executive Director of their e-mail application. Funds will be issued to successful applicants upon subsequent receipt of a formal invoice for the approved amount, and will be paid by bank transfer.
